1. What is the Theatre Arts Guild?
The Theatre Arts Guild is proud to be the country’s oldest community theatre with a record of continuous operation. The Guild has never wavered in its mandate ‘to promote the study, practice and knowledge of the dramatic and musical arts in the city of Halifax and the neighbourhood,’ as its Act of Incorporation states, and remains a true community resource, offering the theatrical experience to both onstage and backstage participants..
2. What is the Pond Playhouse?
The Pond Playhouse the home of the Theatre Arts Guild. The Theatre accommodates a maximum audience of ninety (90).

The Pond Playhouse accommodates a maximum audience of ninety (90). In addition, the building houses a lobby (with bar) and a large rehearsal hall.
4. How many employees does TAG/Pond Playhouse have?
TAG is run by completely by volunteers and has no paid employees.
Getting There
5. How do I get to the theatre?
The Theatre is located at 6 Parkhill Road in Jollimore, just off the Purcell’s Cove Road at the Williams Lake Road intersection (
map).
Metro Transit Route 15 stops around the corner from the theatre on Purcell's Cove Road.
6. How early should I arrive for a show?
The outer doors of the Pond Playhouse open approximately forty-five minutes prior to the performance. Come early—we suggest at least thirty minutes prior to the start of the show, but no later than fifteen minutes before show time. Seating of latecomers will be determined by each production. Please don't be late!
7. Where can I park?
Limited parking is available at the Theatre for our TAG audience. Additional space is available two doors down, behind the Sikh Temple. They kindly permit us to use their parking lot during our performances. As well, cars may park (carefully) along the SOUTH side of Parkhill Road (the opposite side of the street from the Pond Playhouse). Cars are not allowed to park on the north side (close to the Pond Playhouse) of the street. Thank you for observing the parking rules.
8. Should I bring my own food and drinks?
No. Snacks are available for sale and there is limited bar service in the Theatre Lobby during pre-show and at the interval with selected beers, wines and coolers as well as soft drinks, juice and water. Only bottled water is permitted inside the Theatre.
9. Are there any restaurants nearby?
The closest restaurants are at the Armdale roundabout and along Herring Cove Road.
10. What should I wear?
There is no formal dress code enforced by TAG. Most of our patrons will probably be dressed casually.
The Plays
11. What kind of plays does TAG offer?
Performances run from musicals to comedies, mysteries and dramas, with an ever-popular pantomime during the Christmas period. The season is supplemented by workshops, readings and an annual members' Variety Night.
12. How many shows do you have each year?
TAG’s season runs from September through July, during which five shows are presented.
13. How long are the shows?
Different shows have different running times. Typically a show will run 2 to 2 1/2 hours which includes a 15 minute interval (intermission).
14. Can I take pictures of the show?
No. Cameras, video cameras and any other image or sound-recording devices are all strictly forbidden in the theatre.
15. Will I have an opportunity to meet the cast after the performance?
Yes, you can meet the cast in the lobby when they have had a chance to change out of costume.
16. Can I bring my children?
Each of TAG’s plays are for a certain age group. Everybody must purchase a ticket. TAG productions are not suitable for children under the age of 3 years. The live theatre experience, which includes a dark auditorium, bright lights, and sound effects, is too overwhelming for children under the age of 3 years. Babes in arms are not permitted in the theatre, out of courtesy to our audiences and our actors.

17. What are your box office hours?
Box Office services are provided by Ticket Atlantic outlets at many Superstores, the Metro Centre and by telephone. Please refer to
Ticket Atlantic and Superstore for hours of operation. In addition, the Theatre’s Box Office is open 45 minutes before and during each scheduled performance.
18. Does TAG cancel shows due to inclement weather?
While uncommon, the Theatre Arts Guild may, under exceptional circumstances, cancel a performance. In that circumstance, ticket holders will be issued a full refund. Tickets can be returned in person to the Ticket Atlantic box office or by mail to Ticket Atlantic unless otherwise specified. The refund will be issued using the same payment method used for the purchase.
19. Does Tag sell subscriptions?
Not at this time.

Special Needs
21. I am hearing-impaired. Does TAG offer amplification?
No. However, seats may be reserved at the front of the audience. Please ensure that you indicate your need when purchasing your tickets by phone. Please note that this seat preference service is only available when booking by phone
22. Is TAG wheelchair-accessible?
Yes. We do have wheelchair accessible facilities and seating for our performances. Please let Ticket Atlantic know your seating needs at the time you purchase your ticket by phone. Sorry, this service is only available when booking by phone.
23. Do you have a scent free policy?
Theatre Arts Guild is committed to ensuring the enjoyment and safety of cast, crew and patrons, including air quality. Patrons are requested, therefore, to refrain from wearing scented personal care products to the theatre. Thank you for your cooperation.
